Protecting Your Energy: A Personal Story

You probably don’t know this, but in my early twenties I made a very clear decision.
I stopped watching anything with an 18 certificate (in the UK) or R-rated if you’re reading this from the US or Canada.
Why?
Because I realised how deeply those films were affecting me and I don’t mean just a few hours of discomfort.
I’m talking about months of sleepless nights.
Years of lingering anxiety.
Disturbing images I couldn’t unsee.
Sometimes it was horror, sometimes graphic violence, sometimes scenes of sexual abuse or emotional trauma.
Whatever it was, it stayed in my system. It embedded itself into my subconscious, into my nervous system, into my dreams.
And it hurt.
So I made a promise to myself. If something has an 18 certificate, I simply won’t watch it. Even now, at 52, I always check the rating before I choose a film. It’s a non-negotiable.
Because I honour my sensitivity.
As a high-level empath and intuitive, I’ve learned the importance of protecting my energy.
That doesn’t just go for movies, it includes what I consume on social media, the people I spend time with, and the environments I allow myself to be in.
If something feels heavy, dark or unsettling, I say no.

I don’t wait for it to damage me first.
And this email is your reminder that you can do the same.
If you’ve been feeling more sensitive lately.
If the outside world is affecting you more than it used to.
If your nervous system feels overloaded or your energy feels constantly drained.
This is your invitation to turn it off. To walk away. To protect your inner world like it matters.

Because it does.
